It’s action all the way with this years Brean Stages Rally and is set to be the biggest yet with a record entry of 100 starters at the Brean Leisure Park venue in Somerset.

With a number of World Rally Cars among the entries, competition for top honours is bound to be keenly contested over the 2 days of rallying in the park.  The rally, which takes place on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 January will host rally crews from all around the UK, including a number of national rally champions,  19 year Aaron Newby from Cumbria, who is   the 2013 Manx Rally Champion, with an impressive nine wins in his TEG Sport and Pirelli backed Subaru Impreza.  Also taking part is Richard Bliss from Weston-super-Mare who has recently been crowned  Welsh Tarmac Rally Champion in his Honda Civic Type R.  Alongside these will be Peter Lloyd, former 5 times winner of this event and Welsh Rally  Champion driving his Subaru Impreza WRC S14 and Steve Furzeland, winner of this event in 2013 driving a Subaru Impreza WRC S12.

Entered in his first rally at Brean will be the 2011 British Truck Racing Association champion driver,  Dave Jenkins, probably better known for his recent exploits on TV driving the slip-streaming truck for bike racer Guy Martin in the channel 4 programme ‘Speed’.

The rally actually gets under way for the competitors on Friday 24 January when the pre rally scrutineering comes to Weston-super-Mare..  For the first time this will be held at the Weston College’s new Automotive Technology Centre on the Locking Road. This facility will also be open to the public who will get the opportunity to view the rally cars and meet the drivers.

Six  special stages will be completed throughout Saturday with a further six stages on Sunday and an added Trophy Rally incorporating those competitors who were unfortunate to retire from the rally on the Saturday stages and who manage to put things back together for the Sunday morning re-start.

 The rally, organised by Club Rallysport West, was awarded the coveted South West ‘Rally of the Year’ in 2011 and has grown in stature and popularity over the years and now attracts some of the sports leading crews.  The rally will again be the opening round of two major regional championship series, the Association of South Western Motor Clubs and the Cotswold Motor Sport Group.

Spectator Information  

Friday 24 January – Pre Rally Scrutineering at the Weston College Automotive Technical Centre  from 1pm until approximately 7pm.  Car parking is available and admission is free.

Saturday and Sunday 25 and 26 January – Spectators are welcome into the park and both indoor and outdoor catering facilities will be available over both days.

The organisers have ensured that spectators are well looked after with 3 viewing area, one of which has a covered grandstand giving excellent viewing across the inner field stages.

Brean is one of the very few venues in the South of the country where spectators can watch this exciting sport at close quarters. Spectators will be admitted to the park over both days of the rally with an admission charge of just £5 (accompanied children under 12 will be admitted free) and car parking will be £5. Gates open on both days from 8.30am.

Preparations are now well in hand for the South West’s annual premier stage rally,the Brean Stages Rally  held at the Brean Leisure Park in Somerset. The rally will be held over the weekend of  25th and 26th January 2014.

This will be the eighteenth consecutive year for the rally at Brean and it promises to be as exciting as ever.  Promoted by Club Rallysport West, the event will be the opening round of the Association of South Western Motor Clubs and the Cotswold Motor Sport Group Rally Championships. 

The rally is held entirely within the confines of the Brean Leisure Park in Somerset and 85 rally cars will tackle the12 special stages over 2 days. Such is the popularity of this West Country event that enquiries for entries have been received from all parts of mainland UK, Channel Islands and Ireland.

The rally will again contain a range of cars, from the ever popular Ford Escorts, Vauxhall Nova’s, Corsa’s, and Peugeots, through to the more exotic, state of  the art World Rally Cars, such as the Ford Fiesta and Focus, Subaru Impreza and Mitsubishi’s.

The organisers are ensuring that spectators are well looked after with covered seated grandstand and heated al-fresco snacks available in the spectator areas.  All other indoor catering facilities will also be available within the park.

Other news from Club Rallysport West is that they have formed a partnership with the Weston College Skills Campus new automotive technology centre. Over the past 10 months members of CRSW has been working closely with staff members of the college to provide a motor sport engineering training programme. 

The motor sport partnership was launched at a recent college open day, which featured a full scale replica of the Bloodhound land speed record car and a rally and race car display.

Over the coming months, members of both organisations will be working together in order to provide the students with skill based information concerning motor sport engineering and the opportunities which are available within the industry..
